About San Audio

San Audio is Jon San Paolo, a life-long musician with nearly 20 years of experience recording and mixing audio in digital and analog formats.

Ordinarily, I make records in the studio. But, as we shelter-in-place, I'm providing remote audio services to a variety of musicians, companies and individuals who aren’t able to use a studio setting for their needs.

I’ve worked for the past 15 years at Electrical Audio, alongside Steve Albini, to assist in recording a variety of great artists including Foo Fighters, The Stooges, Scott Weiland, Jarvis Cocker, The Breeders, Bob Mould, Marion Cotillard, Glen Hansard and Neurosis.

I’ve also been an engineer and technical overlord for Burn The Furniture for the past 10 years, built and tested Neotek Consoles for Sytek Audio Systems between 2010 and 2016, and have dedicated myself to guiding people through the process of getting the unique sound they are looking for.

I earned my BA in broadcasting from Drury University (with an emphasis on audio and video production), in addition to completing the MRPII program from the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences.

Musicians, Bands & Clients

I’ve provided primary audio engineering for a variety of genres and performances.

Testimonials

A few kind words from people that i’ve worked with.

“I have had the great fortune of being able to work with Jon San Paolo on countless records over the years. In the stressful recording studio environment, Jon has a presence that immediately makes everyone feel at ease and gets the best performances from everyone in the room.

— Neal Markowski, Musician, Korean Jeans (and numerous other bands)

There’s no audio-related task Jon doesn’t excel at. JSPWTF is America’s Top-Liked Guy, ten years running."

— Steve Albini, Engineer/Owner, Electrical Audio

"Ah, let me sing the praises of Jon San Paolo.  First of all, I am pretty sure that the wikipedia entry for "nice guy" consists solely of a JSP grin-shot. We knew of his reputation for being super friendly and easy to work with before beginning the recording of our first album, but we didn't know how much we'd benefit from his exhaustive know-how and damned-clever problem-solving.

We worked with Jon to record and mix our debut album, doing the recording at Electrical Audio, the bulk of the mixing at Burn the Furniture, and the remainder of the mixing remotely from Jon's apartment, when the whole world went into coronavirus lockdown.

Jon was so patient and low-attitude that we felt comfortable experimenting, and his thorough knowledge of his tools let us be creative through the mixing process, even when we were working remotely.  He's very good at stepping back and letting the band find its sound.  We grew a lot in the process, not to mention had tons of fun, felt relaxed and supported, and ended up with kick-ass tracks."

— Kathryn, Musician, Loams

Get the sound you want.

I believe that being comfortable in the recording process leads to greater confidence and better performances. By guiding bands through the process I can help them be in more control of their production while staying efficient, maintaining high quality, and being mindful of the final output. Have a listen and let me know what sound you are looking for.
